A woman who allegedly intended to kill a 5-year-old son boy she believed was the Antichrist, a police affidavit states, is in a North Texas mental health facility as of Monday.

Beth Ann Straley, 46, of Lakeway had been a friend of the boy’s family, but on Jan. 27 she reportedly entered their house unannounced in the Ridge at Alta Vista through an unlocked door, police said.

When she encountered their housekeeper in the foyer, Straley told her that she wanted to see the boy’s mother and when she learned she wasn’t there, she brandished a pistol, according to police.

“She pulls a gun out and says, ‘I have this for her,’” Lakeway police chief Todd Radford said.

The housekeeper interpreted that Straley wanted to give the gun to the mother and took it from her hand, Radford explained.

“That [startled] the suspect, because now she’s been disarmed,” he said. “She screams and runs out of the house.”

Straley fled to a neighbor’s house where she confessed to wanting to kill the boy, his mother and a man who lives in the house, according to police.

Before she was taken to North Texas, her affidavit states she repeated her confession during an evaluation by a Travis County Sheriff’s Office deputy.

Radford said Straley suffered a psychotic episode and that when she is released from the mental health facility, police will exercise a warrant for her arrest.

“This particular incident was not a random act of violence,” he said. “She specifically went to their house to carry out what she believed to be her mission.”

In her two years at the Ridge at Alta Vista, Straley had taken on prominent roles in the community.

Neighbors said she served on a welcome committee that greeted new residents with gift baskets.

After the Labor Day weekend wildfires, she championed efforts to prepare for wildfire threats to the community that backs up to the same bird preserve as does Steiner Ranch.

The relationship of late between Straley and the boy’s family had reportedly deteriorated quickly.

“The week before, they were best friends,” said one neighbor who asked to not be identified.

Police charged Straley with burglary of a habitation, which is a first-degree felony. Her bond will be $500,000.
