The Travis County Sheriffs Office has closed its investigation into the Dec. 9 claim by a former Lake Travis Middle School janitor that she saw an armed man in the school’s restroom.

Her claim prompted a four-hour lockdown of the middle school and adjacent Lake Travis High School that ended without a suspect identification or apprehension.

The TCSO closed the case without filing charges after finding no evidence to support or refute her statement, TCSO spokesman Roger Wade said Wednesday.

The Lake Travis school district and sheriff’s office officials have not identified the woman who the district placed on paid administrative leave Dec. 12, 2011, and fired Jan. 9.

District officials investigated her claim and reviewed video surveillance but reported that they could not locate evidence to corroborate her account.

“We don’t believe there was any evidence to substantiate her claim,” LTISD director of communications Marco Alvarado in an interview at the time of her termination.

Because of state whistleblower laws, school district officials said they could not release her identity but they have requested an opinion from the attorney general’s office.

The district will not file charges against the janitor, Alvarado said.
