Martha Paisley Ruth’s paintings will be on display at Lakeway City Hall from August 18 through September 28.
The exhibit may be viewed during regular City Hall office hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m.-5 p.m. The Art Gallery is located off the main lobby of City Hall at 1102 Lohmans Crossing.
Ruth and her husband moved to the Lakeway area five years ago, fulfilling a lifelong dream to live by water. From her home and studio located 50 feet from Lake Austin in Apache Shores, the tranquil views of the river’s reflective current, surrounding lush foliage and large old oak and pecan trees, and the cool breezes inspire Ruth everyday to paint whether it is landscape or still life subjects. Her versatility is evident — she prefers acrylic, watercolor, or colored pencil, choosing the medium which best expresses her feeling for the painting’s subject. The mood of the atmosphere inspire her choice of colors, all juxtaposed through a variety of the shapes she sees, giving her work a dynamic and rhythm. Living near or playing on the water have been a continuous theme throughout Ruth’s life, so not surprisingly, it often flows through her landscapes of the Hill Country and brings fluidity to her still life subjects of transparent glassware and reflected patterns.
Ruth will also exhibit some of her paintings at the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce in the Prosperity Bank building from Aug. 2-Oct. 2.
