Award-winning musician Sara Hickman and the Family Time Rocks band wowed an audience of 132 people at the Lake Travis Community Library Summer Reading Program Finale on Aug. 12.
“The show was so much fun!” said Library Director Morgan McMillian. “Sara Hickman really knew how to get the crowd involved and made up a song on the spot about dancing toddler Lucy. It was a memorable experience and a great way to end our Summer Reading Program.”
Almost 100 children completed reading logs this year, earning free books, coupons, prizes, and an invitation to this fabulous concert. This was the second year the library also offered a reading program for adults with 28 people participating. Those who completed genre bingo cards entered a raffle for an evening stay at the Vintage Villas, a gift certificate to the Grille at Rough Hollow, a manicure at Quality Nails and Spa, free wine tastings at Wine Traders, and more. Sonic, Subway, Chick-fil-A, PEC, and Papa Murphy’s also contributed prizes to the programs.
“Doing the hokey pokey at the Sara Hickman concert was the best,” said Ryan, age five.
Lake Travis Community Library also offered a variety of programs throughout the summer to entertain and educate children during their break from school. Reading clubs for children throughout the elementary school grades, a craft camp, a science camp, lunchtime reading clubs, and more were presented throughout the past months. Special performances by Critterman, Mr. Puppet, Kim Lehman, Bernadette Nason, and clown Bonzo Crunch were also well attended.
“My favorite book I read this summer was Molly Moon’s Hypnotic Time Travel Adventure in Lunch Bunch,” said Chad, age 10. “I like to read with a group of people at the library.”
Summer Reading program participants who were unable to attend the finale can pick up their certificates and prizes at the library in the coming weeks. Please see the library website at www.laketravislibrary.org or call (512) 263-2885 for more information.
