Nitas Picture for ObitMarch 28, 1948 – August 6, 2010

Proverbs 31: verses 10: “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies.” 16: “She considers a field and buys it.” 17: “She sets about her work vigorously, her arms are strong for her tasks.” 20: “She opens her arms to the poor and extends her hands to the needy.”

Nita Kay Nix Peebles, a woman of faith in God who exemplifies these chosen verses from the Bible, passed away on Friday, Aug. 6, 2010 in Burnet, Texas.

Nita was born March 28, 1948 in Abilene, Texas to Orval and Maureen Nix. Nita grew up in Columbus, Texas, where her love for Texas high school football began. During her childhood, she especially cherished time spent fishing with her father.

Nita graduated from Columbus High School and from Baylor University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Home Economics. A lifelong passion for learning led her to complete a Master’s degree in Organizational Development, while still maintaining a prominent career in Human Resources.

On Feb. 9, 1985 Nita married Rocky Peebles, a Southern gentleman from Raleigh. David Ryan Peebles, their son, was her heart’s delight and is the joy of his father. Of the many things for which Nita is thankful, the highlights of this year include attending David’s graduation from The University of Oklahoma in May and his June wedding to Meredith Lynn Willinger, the love of his life.

A woman guided by her heart, Nita was a servant in every sense of the word. Some of her greatest joys included serving alongside David on mission trips and volunteering for the American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life. Her home will always be a sanctuary for many, from her beloved animals to “her boys” as she liked to call David’s friends.

A loving and devoted wife, Nita delighted in working with Rocky developing their Marble Falls business, Accent Granite and Marble. Much of her time was dedicated there as a way to minister to her husband and others. She was diligent in everything she did and never met a challenge too great to face; her courage was unwavering.

Nita was preceded in death by her parents and baby brother. She is survived by her husband, Rocky Peebles of Marble Falls, her son David Peebles, and David’s wife, Meredith of Bartlesville, Oklahoma. Nita is also survived by a family and host of loving friends who have been given new insights into God’s grace and love throughout her life.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Aug. 10 at Lakeway Church with Minister Lee Rutter officiating. Graveside services in McDade, Texas and a reception at Lakeway Church followed.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to American Cancer Society, Relay For Life, in Marble Falls. Checks may be mailed to: American Cancer Society, 2433 Ridgepoint Drive, Suite B, Austin, Texas 78754. Please indicate “In memory of Nita Peebles, for Marble Falls Relay For Life” on the check.

Funeral Arrangements are entrusted to the Jones Family Funeral Home, Elgin.
