The City of Lakeway has requested The Village of The Hills to release a tract of land known as the Villas of the Hills from its extra territorial jurisdiction. When the Village of the Hills Board of Aldermen meets Thursday, Aug. 12, at 8:30 a.m., a public hearing will be held for citizen comment on the request.
Village of The Hills Mayor Doug Lindgren sent a letter July 27 to residents informing them of the hearing.
“As you may be aware, the City of Lakeway has requested the Village of The Hills to release the Villas of the Hills from The Hill’s ETJ,” Lindgren said. “If the ETJ is released by The Hills, Lakeway has stated it is its intent to annex this area.”
DeOme appeared to request the Village to relinquish the ETJ rights of the Villas at The Hills in July. He explained that the City of Lakeway was in the process of reviewing those areas adjacent to their city limits, which were benefiting from Lakeway services, such as solid waste disposal, but not paying taxes. In exchange for the release of the ETJ, by the Village, Mayor DeOme stated that the City of Lakeway would assume ownership of Hayden Ridge Road from The Hills POA and reimburse the Village for the fence expenditures and assume maintenance responsibilities of the fence surrounding the Villas. Alternately, he proposed that the Village annex the Villas. He requested that the Village BOA commit to a time frame for a response to this proposal.
Lindgren appointed Lloyd Troeltzsch and Ron Dodd to investigate the proposal further.
