As usual, Lake Travis will be represented at the individual state tennis championships on May 10-11 at The World of Tennis in Lakeway.

Conor O’Rourke and Claire Cahill defeated fourth-seeded Boerne in the semis and Alamo Heights in the finals of mixed doubles, taking both matches in straight sets and the first place medal, advancing to state.

Austin Mayo defeated the No. 4 seed from Corpus Christi Ray in the semis, dropping only one game. He played a hard-fought match, according to head coach Carol Creel, against the No. 1 seed from Ray who won regionals the previous year and lost in two tough sets.

He faced Alamo Heights in the playback and came through in three sets, taking second place and qualifying for state.

While Lake Travis didn’t have any other state qualifiers, there were still a number of strong performances at the tournament.

In boys’ doubles, Carlos Arana and Jaxon Immler lost a tough three-set match in the semis to the No. 2 seed from Boerne, but defeated No. 4 seed Gregory Portland, taking third place.

In girls’ singles, Ryan Brown and Courtney Schulte lost in the semis and played each other for third and fourth, with Brown taking third and Schulte taking fourth.

The first round of boys’ singles at the state tournament will go on at 9 a.m., Monday, May 10, and the mixed doubles will go on at 1 p.m.
