Lake Travis High School (LTHS) had a record 135 entries receive superior ratings at the regional Texas Art Education Association /Visual Art Scholastic Event (VASE) competition held February 27, 2010 at San Marcos High School.
LTHS students-combined with 44 other schools in the region-submitted a total of 2,234 entries. Ratings were calculated based on student interviews with a judge and the quality of the artwork. Additionally, a record 25 LTHS students and 27 pieces advanced to state competition to be held at the University of Houston in Clear Lake on April 9-10.
According to LTHS art teacher Diane Wrinkle, VASE is a state-wide curricular competition-one of the largest of its kind in the nation-for high school art students that gives them the opportunity to develop creative works of art and to discuss and analyze their artwork with professionals.
The following students received a superior rating and qualified for state: Samantha Baker, Brooke Batten, Alex Bettridge, Chrissie Chapman, Nancy Christian, Tina Coyne, Nicole Enas, Angela Grass, Kristina Hoffmann, Zach Hoffmann. Rachel Jones, Bonnie Leung, Nikki Markim, Lily McCourt, Brenna McNerney, Madeline Parsons, Alex Pell, Tiffany Persaud, Kay Rollins, Sarina Saletta, Evan Smith, Brandon Valadez, Sarah Wang, Jessica Wilson and Briana Zimbelman.
