Nineteen Lake Travis Cavaliers displayed some very special skills at the area basketball tournament held Feb. 26-27 at Texas State University in San Marcos.
In the Individual Skills division, athletes demonstrated their proficiency in passing, shooting, and dribbling, earning points for accuracy and speed. Athletes were grouped by similar age and abilities. The following athletes represented Lake Travis:
• Emelia Holmertz — 3rd grade, Lake Pointe Elementary; earned 9 points and a bronze medal
• Austin Speight — 4th grade, Lake Travis Elementary; earned 51 points and a silver medal
• Christopher Whitty — 5th grade, Lake Pointe Elementary; earned 14 points and a silver medal
• Coaches — Kim Eudy, Pam Williams, and Stephanie West
In competition, 3-on-3 teams were also grouped with individuals of similar abilities. The Lake Travis team played against two other school-based teams and one community-based adult team, taking home the gold in their division. The team was comprised of the following athletes:
• Colton Bauer — 7th grade, Lake Travis Middle School
• Jenee Berry — 7th grade, Hudson Bend Middle School
• Taylor Giardina — 12th grade, Lake Travis High School
• Holly Hanson — 11th grade, Lake Travis High School
• Andrea Kennedy — 12th grade, Lake Travis High School
• Alexa Sandford — 7th grade, Hudson Bend Middle School
• Coaches — Jill Kelley, David Hanley, Kim Eudy, and Ron Eudy
This is the first year that Lake Travis fielded a 5-on-5 team. As with the other teams, 5-on-5 teams were also grouped with individuals of similar abilities. The Cavs played four games-two against school-based teams and two against community-based adult teams-and earned a 1st place medal in their division. The team was comprised of the following athletes:
• Alex Acquarola — 10th grade, Lake Travis Middle School; 20 points
• Zac Brown — 18+ program; 56 points
• Adrian Estrada — 9th grade, Lake Travis High School
• Gracie Eudy — 18+ program; 16 points
• Alex Kelley — 8th grade, Hudson Bend Middle School; 6 points
• Jordan Luna — 9th grade, Lake Travis High School; 2 points
• Duncan Moore — 11th grade, Lake Travis High School; 2 points
• Morgaine Moore — 10th grade, Lake Travis High School
• Scott Tully — 8th grade, Hudson Bend Middle School; 2 points
• Rachel Williams: 18 — program
• Coaches — Ron Eudy, Kim Eudy, Jill Kelley, and David Hanley
Overall, the Lake Travis Cavs participate in three sports-bowling, basketball, and track-and spend eight months a year practicing and competing. The next competition will be the area track meet to be held at Connally High School in Austin on April 24.
