With team success comes individual recognition, and after the most successful basketball season in school history, the Cavaliers have quite a list of awards to go with a state semifinal appearance and a 4A No. 3 ranking to close out the season.
“You have to admit, this is pretty amazing,” Lake Travis head coach Jan Jernberg said of the player awards. “I am really proud of all of them.”
Leading the way is senior point guard David Eads, who was named District 25-4A Most Valuable Player, All-Region, All-State and likely first-team All-CenTex. He was also selected to play in the Texas Associatoin of Basketball Coaches All-Star Game in San Antonio. The game will be held May 21 at Trinity University at 7:45 p.m.
Senior forward Zach Karczewski was the second-most honored Cavalier, earning first-team all-district, All-Region and All-State honors.
Eads and Karczewski are the first all-state basketball players for Lake Travis since Guy Clayton was selected to the third team in 1990.
Senior forward Cole Vucurevich was named District 25-4A Defensive Player of the Year, a first alternate for All-Region and will play in the Dennis Johnson Memorial All-Star Game in Austin. The date and specific location of that game are not yet available.
Second-team all-district honors went to junior forwards Chris Dash and Billy Sherakas, and honorable mention honors went to sophomore forward Griffin Gilbert and senior guard Bob Carlton.
Academic awards for the team were not available at press time.
Lake Travis went 33-6 en route to a state semifinal 64-56 overtime loss to No. 2 Lancaster. The state appearance came one year after losing in the Region IV final to LBJ.
