School cavalettes awards mcneil 2010

The Lake Travis Cavalettes headed off to contest, returning to Lake Travis High School with State Championship accolades and additional awards.

The Cavalettes successfully competed in the American Dance/Drill Team School Lone Star State Championship at McNeil High School Feb. 19-20.
The Cavalettes, 65 members strong, competed three routines in the Super Team division including dances in the lyrical, kick, and show production categories. They received a Sweepstakes and top honors of Gussie Nell Davis Award for their performance in these categories. The Cavalettes were named Kick State Champion first runner-up for their kick routine, “Austin Powers.”
The Cavalettes were awarded the special award of Best Overall Presentation and were named Super Team Lone Star State Champion second runner-up. Additionally, as voted on by the teams competing at the Lone Star Championship, the Cavalettes received the ATS Tours and Travel Outstanding Team Award.
The Cavalette Officers competed three routines in the Super Team Officer Division and received the award of Lone Star Officer State Champions 1st Runner-up. Captain Danielle LoPresti, 1st Lt. Kristen Graham, Senior Lt. Liza Ponder, and Junior Lieutenants Jane Bernick, Ashley Bonner, Rachel Harvill and Skeylar Whiddon received a Sweepstakes and top honors of Gussie Nell Davis Award for their combined and overall performance in the Officer Lyrical, Modern, and Kick categories. Their kick routine to “Jai Ho” gained them recognition as Kick State Champions. They received Lone Star Officer State Champion first runner-up for their lyrical routine to “Go On My Child.” Additionally, the Cavalette Officers were awarded the Judges’ Awards for Best Overall Technique and Best Overall Choreography.
The Cavalette Silver Line, a group of 30 advanced technique Cavalettes, performed four routines in the Super Team Elite division. The Silver Line was named State Champions in the Elite division. The Silver Line Jazz routine to “Word Up” was named State Champions.
Cavalettes Amy Bade, Kristen Graham, Jazmin Milam, Annie Wimbush, and Paige Wimbush competed 3 Small Ensemble and received Division I ratings for all three.
Medium Ensemble, “Sweet Dreams” tied for State Champions performed by Stacey Arnold, Amy Bade, Lizzie Engelbrecht, Kristen Graham, Rachel Graham, Danielle LoPresti, Lauren Pasher, and Paige Wimbush.
Duets, competed six, placed four, including the State Champions, Juniors Lizzie Engelbrecht and Simone Culwell with their Duet to “Belief” and a three way tie for 1st Runner-Up, Ordered based off of the posted results online Sophomores Stacey Arnold and Hailey Halgren with their Duet to “Freedom,” Seniors Natalie Crowder and Kelly Norman with their Duet to “Drummer Kick”, and Sophomores Julie Byron and Nicole Norwood with their Duet to “Imogen Heap.”
Solos, competed 23, placed six, including first-fifth runner-up places in the Super Team division. Junior Lizzie Engelbrecht placed first runner-up with her solo “Nicest Thing,” Sophomore Stacey Arnold placed second runner-up with her solo “Do Right,” Sophomore Amy Bade shared a three way tie at third runner-up with her solo “Gotcha,” senior Danielle LoPresti shared a two-way tie at fourth runner-up with her solo, “Gravedigger,” and fifth runner-up was a three-tie including sophomore Julie Byron’s solo, “I had a Dream” and Junior Kristen Graham’s solo “Stuck on You.”
This is the 29th Line for the Lake Travis Cavalette Dance Team and they look forward to continuing their competition season at the Galveston Island Festival by American Dance/Drill Team School, Texas on March 5-6. The Lake Travis Cavalettes are under the direction on Abigail Payne and Erika Garrett.
