It takes commitment to govern Lakeway, Bee Cave, Lake Travis Independent School District and Lakeway Municipal Utility District.

Several incumbents who are hoping their councils and boards will avoid turnover are seeking re-election in the May 8 election. Familiar faces and new challengers all have until the March 8 deadline to file for their respective council or board positions.
Bee Cave Mayor Caroline Murphy and council members Mike Murphy and Chad Bockius filed to extend their terms that will expire in May, but no one else had picked up candidate packets as of Monday, City Secretary Kaylynn Holloway said.
For information on filing as a council or mayoral candidate in Bee Cave, contact Holloway at 767-6641 or kholloway@beecavetexas.gov.
In Lakeway, incumbent City Council members Dee Ann Burns-Farrell, Dave Taylor and Bruce Harris have all filed for re-election. No one else has picked up a candidate packet.
Lakeway council applicants may file in person from 8 a.m.-noon and 1-5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays at City Secretary Christy Fath’s office at Lakeway City Hall, 1102 Lohmans Crossing. Fath also will accept candidate packets mailed to this address.
LMUD Board President Tom Rogers, who has served on the board since 1997 and as president since 2006, said he does not plan to file for re-election.
“I have had 12 great years opening new facilities and carrying on policies to provide great water and wastewater service at a very low cost, but now it’s time to turn over responsibility to fresh faces and new talent,” Rogers said. “I am very optimistic about the district’s future.”
Incumbent board member Jerry Hietpas and former Lakeway City Council member Karl Ansbach have filed to run as a team. Hietpas has served on the LMUD board since 2005.
Retired CPA Fred Newton of Lakeway announced he will run for a LMUD board position. Newton cited his professional career and volunteer experience in the city as qualifications for the office.
Board applications may be picked up at the LMUD office, 1097 Lohmans Crossing, in Lakeway.
Candidates should be civic-minded individuals with a desire to donate their time and talents to the district for the greater good of the community, according to a LMUD release.

At LTISD, three seats are open — places 3, 4 and 5.
Place 3 incumbent Susan Tolles, the board president, has said she will not seek reelection.
“It is time to let someone else do this,” Tolles, who is completing her ninth year on the board.
Place 4 incumbent, Jason Buddin, as well as Place 4 incumbent, Alan Williams, both will seek reelection.
At presstime, only Alex Alexander, Lake Hills Church’s Pastor of Family Life, had filed (for Place 3).
