Excitement is building as local volunteers sign up to help facilitate the American Veterans Traveling Tribute (AVTT) Price of Freedom Committee after a meeting held at the Lakeway Heritage Center, Jan. 20.
Representatives of three local groups have signed on for duties associated with the patriotic exhibit scheduled to displayed at the Lake Travis High School football field. The exhibit will be free and open to the public 24-hours May 12-17.
“First to respond to the call for volunteers was the River in the Hills Church, closely followed by the Lake Travis Lions Club,” said Mike Boston, who is coordinating the exhibit. “Hosting a reception at the Lakeway Activity for all volunteers on Tuesday, May 11 will be the Lakeway Heritage Commission and the Lohmann’s Ford Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.”
Tentatively signing on at last week’s meeting were the Lakeway Senior Men’s Golf Group and the Lakeway Men’s Breakfast Club. The Lakeway Sing Alongs later confirmed their participation.
“The exhibit is coming to the Lake Travis area thanks to a grant provided by the Lakeway Civic Corporation,” Boston said. “The committee is encouraging student participation through the local schools, particularly Wednesday through Friday.”
Formal opening ceremonies will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday, which — weather permitting — will include a fly-over by a flight of four F16 fighters from the Joint Reserve Base in Fort Worth. Formal closing ceremonies, possibly including a concert, will begin just before sunset on Sunday and be completed by about 9 p.m.
Organizational efforts are being managed through the cooperation of the Lake Travis Independent School District staff and the Lake Travis Chamber of Commerce.
