Five Lake Travis High School students have answered the call, earning top state honors.

Four students from the Cavalier Band have been selected to the 2010 Texas 4-A All-State Band, doubling the number of students selected in 2009.
Sophomore Rob Fuller, junior Emma DeCaro, and seniors Kris Anderson and Alex Baczewski each competed in a series of rigorous auditions at the district, region, and area levels as prescribed by the Texas Music Educators Association (TMEA). Anderson was named for the third consecutive year.
According to TMEA, there are 240 4-A high schools in Texas, and only 110 positions are available in the 4-A All-State band.
“Less than two percent of all Texas high school band students who begin the process actually qualify for All-State,” said LTHS Band Director Kenneth Vise. “Having four students selected to All-State band is a new record for our school. It demonstrates not only the musical ability of our students but their commitment to excellence in performance.”
The students will perform with the Texas 4A All-State Band Feb. 13 at the Lila Cockrell Theatre in San Antonio during the annual TMEA convention. Joining them will be LTHS junior and three-time All-State harpist Grace Shaack who was selected to the All-State Orchestra in the fall. The outstanding honor doesn’t surprise Anna Macias, the LTHS and Lake Travis Middle School orchestra teacher who has worked with Schaack for five years.
“I cannot say enough how talented and exceptional Grace is, as both a musician and student,” Macias said. “Her maturity and professionalism make her a complete joy to work with.”
