Cavalier head coach Chad Morris is trying to decide whether to accept a job at the collegiate level, or stick around a little longer at Lake Travis.

It’s no surprise that Lake Travis head coach Chad Morris is getting attention from the collegiate ranks.

He hasn’t lost a game (32-0) since taking over at Lake Travis after arriving from Stephenville, has won three state titles in six chances in the state of Texas, has an all-time record of 162-25 and has been such an innovative offensive mind that his alma mater Texas A&M brought him in last summer to give a few tips on how to make his no-huddle, breakneck-paced offense work.

So here’s what we know.

Morris was reported by the Tulsa World to have been on the campus at the University of Tulsa on Tuesday and Wednesday, and a source close to the situation has told us that he’s been offered an offensive coordinator position there as part of a five-year guaranteed deal.

He’s also rumored to have at least one if not two other possible offers at the collegiate level on the table, possibly from Texas A&M as a quarterbacks or special teams coach.

Is his exit a foregone conclusion? Not necessarily. Morris has always insisted that a situation has to feel absolutely right for him to move forward with it, and he undoubtedly will have some reservations leaving a defending state champion with much of the roster returning for the 2010 season.

That said, he relishes a challenge and has always felt he could coach at the next level. He has reason to believe, as the man behind the “HUNH” offense that Morris runs – Gus Malzahn – was coaching at Tulsa just two years after coaching at the high school level. Malzahn is now at Auburn – not surprisingly, one of the schools that is interested in current Lake Travis quarterback Michael Brewer. (Brewer also has interest from Tulsa, Texas Tech and Baylor).

Naturally, Morris would prefer to delay any decision until after Sunday’s celebratory parade, so that the focus of the celebration doesn’t sway from the team to the coach, and he may also need that time to deliberate over more offers as they come. (For instance, if current Texas A&M offensive coordinator Nolan Cromwell returns to the NFL for a coaching job, a loftier position suddenly opening at Texas A&M would certainly change the landscape for Morris.)

But he also may not have time as a luxury.

Still, Morris has said there’s no timetable for when a final decision would be made.

If Morris did take a job at Tulsa, he’d be reunited with former Lake Travis and current Golden Hurricane players Harry Hatch, Marcus Pate and Austin Pollard. He’d also join former Lake Travis assistant Jess Loepp, who serves as the Director of High School Relations for the Tulsa football program.
