Football teams from Lake Travis and Westlake, fresh off another state championship for the Cavaliers and a championship game appearance for the Chaps, will tee off again a week from Saturday.
Okay, it won’t be the 2009 teams meeting off for a second time, but alumni from each school will compete against each other as part of the area’s first Central Texas Alumni Football weekend. Games will be played under standard high school rules, in full pads and with officials.
The Lake Travis team consists of approximately 30 former players, including members of the 2005 district championship team Clark Hanley, Adam Rossing, Eric Calloway and Michael Coronado. Alumni from as far back as 1989 are taking part in the game. Game participants do not have to have played football in their high school days, only to have graduated from their respective schools. Pads and other equipment will be supplied.
The team will meet this weekend for practices at Lake Travis Middle School before the game against the former Westlake players on Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. The game will take place at Elgin High School. The practices are set for 10 a.m. on Saturday and 2 p.m. on Sunday.
Other alumni games include Elgin vs. Manor; McCallum/Pflugerville vs. Cedar Park/Leander; Westwood vs. Round Rock/McNeil and Wimberly vs. Dripping Springs.
Players who are interested in playing can still sign up. Contact Hanley at clark.hanley@gmx.com. While 30 players have signed up, Hanley said more are welcome. Player registration costs $75 and can be done online at alumnigames.com.
Fans are also welcome to attend the game. The full schedule is also available at alumnigames.com.
