Business school goes to bat for Ronald McDonald House
Thursday, December 31, 2009 |

The Lake Travis High School of Business curriculum dictates that students in all leadership classes are required to participate in a community service project of their choice.
With much discussion and debate, the fourth period leadership class chose the Ronald McDonald House (RMH) as their charity.
RMH informed them that they needed granola bars and Ramen noodles for their Family Room at St. David’s North Austin Medical Center.
The Family Room serves families who cannot or do not want to leave the hospital while their child is being treated.
In response to this request, the fourth period leadership class hosted a Ronald McDonald House Week at LTHS from Dec. 7-11.
During this time, second period classes were asked to compete to see who could collect the most packages of Ramen noodles and granola bars. With the students’ and teachers’ help, LTHS collected over 600 packages of noodles and granola bars for the Family Room.
Laura Barnes’ Life-skills class came in first; Catherine Parker and Kasey Spano’s class came in second, and Richard Southward’s Psychology class came in third.
In addition to the Ramen and Granola drive, three area McDonald’s restaurants-Bee Caves, Westlake and the downtown location-agreed to contribute 15 percent of all sales on Wednesday, December 9 to the Ronald McDonald House on behalf of the LTHS Business Leadership class.
In the end, $2,482 was raised by folks in the Lake Travis and greater Austin area who dined at McDonald’s that day.
The LTHS Business Leadership class thanks everyone who helped make Ronald McDonald House Week a big success.
