flock-ing n. 1 fund-raising tool for Project Graduation that accounts for Red plastic flamingos showing up on random lawns placed by the Senior Class of 2010 – most recently in the Uplands neighborhood in Bee Cave.
——————————
When Elaine Duffy looked out her window one day last week, she could have sworn there was a flock of flamingos in her Uplands front yard. She rubbed her eyes, did a double-take, and . . . they were still there.
Elaine was one of the first to get “flocked.” Seniors of LTHS placed a collection of plastic Red Cavalier flamingo lawn ornaments in front of her house when she wasn’t looking. Elaine would soon discover that to get the flock moved off her yard would require a discreet payoff.
Blackmail? A bit of good spirited fun? A lighthearted bit of both, not to mention a novel way to raise money.
“Flocking,” as it has become known, is a fund-raising tool that accounts for the flamingos showing up on suburban lawns.
Here’s how it works: Someone pays the Project Graduation Committee to place a flock of Red plastic flamingos on someone else’s lawn. The recipient also gets a “You’ve Been Flocked by Project Graduation” sign explaining the rules and an envelope. For a $25 donation to the cause, the flamingos will be removed and the opportunity to flock a friend or neighbor.
While the donations are, of course, voluntary, we hope to get the Flamingos Flocking all over Lake Travis/Bee Cave area.
So, don’t get left out of this flocking fun.
Joan Hester and Janice Hamilton, the lead coordinators for Project Graduation hope to raise more than $5000 this way. That is a good chunk of the $50 k goal that the organization set out to raise this year.
This is also a great way to get the senior class of 2010 involved to help raise funds for their Project Graduation. Project Graduation is and drug and alcohol free “lock in” party. Games, prizes and other fun will make this the best night of our seniors final experience in High School. Plus, it keeps our communities and kids safe.
