Did you know that you can borrow Transformers, The Proposal, Up, The Taking of Pelham 123, and other brand new movie releases from Lake Travis Community Library? All you need is a library card and you can borrow up to four movies (plus four juvenile DVDs) for a two week period.
Popular television shows such as Friday Night Lights, Mad Men, and 24 are also available. The library is increasing their collection of classic titles, as well. When was the last time you saw Bonnie and Clyde, Lawrence of Arabia, Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, or The Godfather?
“I think I am going to quit Netflix, because it is so convenient and there are plenty of movies here,” said patron Helena Huddleston. “I’ll use the library!”
The library also has hundreds of titles for children. Giggle, Giggle, Quack, Goosebumps: The Headless Ghost, Miss Nelson Has a Field Day, and The Jungle Book are some of their newest titles.
During the holidays, the library is available for more than just borrowing movies.
“A lot of people have family visiting in the coming weeks and I want people to know that we have free computers for public use,” said Library Director Morgan McMillian. “You do not need to have a library card or a Texas driver’s license to use our computers.”
In addition to the audiovisual collection and free public computers, the library also offers three regular weekly story times: preschoolers on Mondays at 10:30 a.m., toddlers on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., and babies on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. with songs and fingerplays. Five to eight year olds are invited to come to the library on Wednesdays at 3:15 p.m. for a read aloud, snack, and activity. And, the library continues to offer computer help on Thursdays at 9 a.m. and genealogy sessions on Fridays at 9 a.m. every week.
As always, please contact the library for more information at (512) 263-2885 or www.laketravislibrary.org.
