Lead Story Memoir Pic

Are you interested in writing your memoir or just preserving some of your memories for your children and grandchildren?

Join the new Memoir Writing Group at Lake Travis Community Library. More than two dozen people signed up when the group first launched in October and more writers continue to show interest.
“I have been surprised to find that people of all ages are interested in memoir writing,” said group facilitator Mary Jo Finch. “There are both men and women participating, and I have been especially pleased that they are so excited about memoir writing, that one meeting a month isn’t enough.”
The group currently meets the first Tuesday of the month at 7 p.m. at the library. Because of the intense interest, Sharing Meetings will also take place between monthly meetings.
“The main idea behind the group is to get people started on their writing so that they can continue on at home. We have writing prompts every month based on a theme such as firsts – first memory, first recital, and first car,” said Finch. “As the group progresses, we will also look at working on our writing skills, sharing our writing through blogs or publishing, and participating in area writing workshops. Everyone is welcome.”
For more information on the memoir group, you can access their website through the adult programs page of the library’s website or visit http://laketraviscommunity.wordpress.com/welcome/.
In addition to the Memoir Writing Group, the library also offers three regular weekly story times: preschoolers on Mondays at 10:30 a.m., toddlers on Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m., and babies on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m. with songs and fingerplays. Five to eight year olds are invited to come to the library on Wednesdays at 3:15 p.m. for a read aloud, snack, and activity. Love the Earth Camp on Saturday, Nov. 28 at 11 a.m. will teach early elementary students about conservation through arts and crafts, activities, and story time. Finally, the library continues to offer computer help on Thursdays at 9 a.m. and genealogy sessions on Fridays at 9 a.m. every week.
Contact the library if you want more information about any of these events at (512) 263-2885 or www.laketravislibrary.org.
