A heated exchange between a couple flared into physicality at 8:09 p.m. Oct. 27 that caught the attention of off-duty Lakeway police Officer Steve Adams.
Adams reported that he witnessed Jesus Hernandez Jimenez, 20, of Lakeway wrestling with a woman and holding her down in the back seat of a car in the parking lot of Chicken Express, 2109 RR 620 S., in Lakeway, according to arrest affidavits.
The officer reportedly heard the woman, who police would not identify, screaming “stop” and “get off me.” Adams rushed to assist the woman and grabbed Jimenez to pull him off her.
Jimenez reportedly pushed Adams away at which point Adams identified himself as a police officer and ordered him to get on the ground.
When Jimenez turned back toward the woman, Adams grabbed him and placed a handcuff on one of his wrists and told him he was under arrest, according to the affidavit.
Jimenez then reportedly charged Adams and hit him several times in the head with his fists.
The officer pushed away from Jimenez, drew his pistol and ordered him to the ground again.
Jimenez entered the car, and after Adams yelled for him to stop the officer struck its window repeatedly in order to gain access to the vehicle and control of Jimenez as he put it into gear.
The suspect drove in reverse toward Adams who moved out of the way and then fled the scene.
Lakeway police, Adams and the restaurant’s on duty manager viewed surveillance video recorded from inside the establishment a few minutes before the assault. The manager identified Jimenez as an employee of the restaurant, and Adams recognized Jimenez as the suspect.
Police arrested Jimenez at his home on Fantail in Lakeway. As of Friday, he was in Travis County Jail on two bonds totaling $75,000.
He is charged with assault on a police officer and evading arrest, both of which are felonies.
