Dripping Springs (2-8, 0-6) couldn’t have asked for a worse senior night, as the Tigers were crushed 52-0 by Lake Travis (9-0, 5-0).

It wasn’t a terribly surprising result from either side’s perspective, as the Tigers – already suffering from the loss of a strong senior class – lost their top two offensive players in Jacob Moore and Jeffrey Tuck to injury for the season over two weeks ago. In short, it’s been a very bad, unlucky year for the Tigers, and the Cavs have been beating up everyone that lines up across from them.

“I would rather beat them at their best, with everyone on the field. You don’t want them to have that excuse,” Lake Travis linebacker Ian Lazarus said. “It’s unfortunate for them to be in that position, but I don’t feel that bad for them.”

And so it is with a rivalry.

Lake Travis took its first possession 79 yards on five plays, capping it off with a bubble screen pass to the Lake Travis sideline from Michael Brewer to Andy Erickson, who then took the ball 63 yards for the opening score. Kramer Fyfe’s extra point made it 7-0 less than two minutes into the game.

Dripping Springs put together a respectable drive on the ensuing possession, but stalled out just past midfield and punted away.

The following six-play drive was again finished off with a big touchdown through the air, as Brewer connected with Tanner Gillette to make it 14-0 after Fyfe’s kick with 4:58 left in the first quarter.

It just kept rolling from there for Lake Travis, and Dripping Springs’ depleted offense had no answers for the Cavalier defense.

Lake Travis scored on its next four possessions. Brewer hit Conner Floyd for a two-yard comeback for a touchdown on the visiting side of the end zone and then followed that with an 11-yard touchdown run of his own. Erickson finished up his night by scoring on the two following possessions, first on a two-yard run and again on a 43-yard reception that made it 42-0 heading into halftime.

Cavalier safety Collin Lagasse opened the scoring in the second half when he intercepted a pass from Tiger quarterback Quinton Poe and took it 87 yards for a touchdown. Fyfe finished the night off with a 45-yard field goal that settled the score at 52-0.

Brewer finished the game with 19 completions on 22 attempts for 264 yards and four touchdowns and ran the ball five times for 37 yards and a touchdown. Erickson caught five passes for 148 yards and two touchdowns and ran the ball six times for 23 yards and a score.

The win extended Lake Travis’ state-best winning streak to 39 games, and puts the Cavaliers one win away from a district title. They’ll face Marble Falls at home for senior night next Friday at 7:30 p.m.
