The Lakeway City Council has made its decision concerning a successor in its vacant police chief position. They have chosen Todd Radford, who had been grooming for the job for some time now.
Mr. Radford has, from our observance, all the right stuff to make a fine chief. He appears to be a person of integrity, he is friendly and affable, but most importantly, he appears to understands the political end of the job. That knowledge is likely to serve him well during his tenure.
And the hope here is that his will be a long tenure. He is a relatively young man and if he wants to make a career in Lakeway, he could be a familiar face for years to come.
We think that would be a good thing.
His recent coordination that helped nab our dumpster diving hoodlums that robbed a local jewelry story was simply first class police work.
The editor of this newspaper is not unfamiliar with law enforcement, having served as the photographer for the Deep East Texas Narcotics Task Force way back in the early 1990s.
We see ourselves as friends and partners with our local first responders. They have our support. As long as we toe the line, and they do likewise, the citizens we serve will benefit.
This editor believes our first responders are heroes. Where would we be without them? That is an easy answer — in total chaos. So Mr. Radford, you have a friend in this newspaper, but I suspect you knew that already.
We encourage citizens to give Chief Radford a “grace” period as he puts the department in the order he sees fit.
And from this newspaper: Congratulations Chief Radford. We wish you and your department only the very best.
