Lake Travis Community Library to host Acupuncturist Allison Hebert
Wednesday, October 7, 2009 |
Have you ever wanted to know more about traditional Chinese medicine?
What can it treat? How does it work? Acupuncturist Allison Hebert will answer all of your questions on Tuesday, October 13 at 4 p.m. at the Lake Travis Community Library.
“I plan to discuss a little bit about the history of acupuncture, how it was developed in China, and the theory behind the medicine,” said Hebert. “I will also go into a few examples about common herbs that are used in our medicine.”
Hebert became interested in the subject when her grandmother’s sciatic pain drastically decreased after acupuncture sessions. Public demand has recently increased and Acupuncture and Oriental medicine (AOM) is a fast-growing field. Hebert explains that Chinese medicine treats the whole body, mind, body, and spirit, not just physical symptoms.
Many other exciting events are happening at the library, as well! Popular storyteller Bernadette Nason returns to the library to share Halloween stories on Thursday, October 8 at 3:30 p.m. Join us to get in the mood for the spooky season. You will not want to miss this dynamic, interactive performer!
In October, the library also began a weekly workshop on Thursday mornings to provide remedial computer help. Do you need help opening an email account? Do you know how to search on the Internet? Can you add an attachment to a Word document? Come to the library on Thursday mornings from 9 a.m. to 10 a.m. for computer help.
And, Love the Earth Camp begins on Saturday, Oct. 10 at 11 a.m. Early elementary school students can enjoy arts and crafts, snacks, and a special story time all revolving around our beautiful planet. Stop by the library every second and fourth Saturday of the month at 11 a.m. to learn about conservation, all while having fun!
The library also continues to offer four adult book clubs, a craft club, a genealogy group, story times, and other children’s programming. Story times begin at 10:30 a.m. with preschoolers meeting on Mondays, toddlers on Tuesdays, and babies on Wednesdays.
See the library website at www.laketravislibrary.org or call 263-2885 for more programming information and book club details.
