Marble Falls 14, Dripping Springs 7
Zed Woerner threw a 24-yard pass to David Morgan with 11:14 to play in the game as the Mustangs (4-1, 1-0) beat the Tigers (2-3, 0-1) at Marble Falls.
Woerner completed 17 of 27 passes for 308 yards and both TDs. He also ran for a game-high 68 yards.
Woerner hit Jacob Cernosek with a 37-yard pass in the third quarter for the game’s first score.
Jeff Tuck had a 7-yard pass to Nathan Smothers with 12 minutes left in the fourth quarter to tie it.
Hendrickson 62, Hutto 35
Hutto didn’t come close to finding an answer for Kenny Williams, the Hawks star running back. Williams was the focal point of the Hendrickson attack that ran over Hutto for a huge District 25-4A opening win in Hutto.
Williams finished the night with 24 carries for 278 yards and five touchdowns and caught a pass for 24 yards. It was a remarkable showing in his team’s biggest game of the year thus far.
Hutto (3-2, 0-1) came out in a new package and threw on its first two downs, without involving the quarterback. Receivers Trevor Hayes and Nehemiah Hicks completed passes for 29 and 28 yards to get the Hippos into scoring position. However, that drive ended with a missed field goal.
Hendrickson (3-1, 1-0) turned its offense over to Williams in the second quarter. Trailing 16-14, Williams finished his half with scoring runs of 21 and 19 yards. That helped the Hawks take a 27-16 lead into halftime. They would hold off the Hippos from there.
