Lake Travis continues to establish its dominance in district play, while tackling some challenges away from the district, as well.
On Saturday, Sep. 19, Lake Travis easily defeated Killeen 16-3. The match scheduled to follow on Tuesday, Sep, 22, against Hutto was been postponed until Oct. 20.
Last Saturda, state No. 4 Wichita Falls topped No. 8 Lake Travis 12-7 in the opening meet of the day.
“We had a tough time in doubles but played some excellent singles,” Lake Travis head coach Carol Creel said. “Our No. 1 girl had to default in singles due to injury, so that was tough, too.”
In the later match of the day against No. 10 Waco Midway, Lake Travis lost 11-8.
“This was an excellent match in spite of the loss,” Creel said. “I was very impressed with how our team dealt with a lot of factors on and off the court (fans, physical exhaustion, etc.) and still pulled out some big wins in singles. Waco did not play a morning match so they were a little fresher than we were when it came down to our fourth match of the day. Our No. 1 player (Millie Nichols) did not play due to her wrist injury and our No. 2 boy had to default in singles play due to heat cramps. Those three matches would have been a sure win for Lake Travis. This looks good for our team as we get everyone geared up for the regional tournament in a few weeks.”
Matches of the week went to Courtney Schulte in singles vs. Wichita Falls, Daniel Howell, James Seward and B.G. Slay in singles vs. Waco Midway
This Saturday is the annual Saturday Night Lights fundraiser.
“Please come on out and be our guest as the Lake Travis Fiddlers provide live entertainment along with some excellent exhibition matches, kids’ courts, silent auction, bouncing house and bar-b-que,” Creel said.
