J.W. Galloway, a 2005 graduate of Lake Travis High School and a recreation, park and tourism sciences major at Texas A&M University, recently began a summer 2009 internship in Washington, D.C. Galloway will spend the summer as an integral part of Congressman Pete Sessions’s team.
Galloway is one of 13 students selected for a policy internship through the Agricultural and Natural Resources Policy (ANRP) Internship Program at Texas A&M University. Galloway’s duties include monitoring legislation, attending committee hearings and briefings, researching and responding to constituent requests, and preparing reports for senior staff members. Galloway is the son of Wil Galloway.
“This internship program play an integral role at Texas A&M,” said Breanne Svehla, director of the ANRP Internship Program. “It gives agricultural students the opportunity to gain real world experience in a challenging and rewarding environment. The ANRP Internship Program is one of the few in the nation specifically geared toward transforming today’s agricultural students into tomorrow’s leaders.”
The program is in its 19th year of sending students to Washington, D.C. to work in congressional offices and other agricultural organizations. Since its inception, more than 700 Aggies have worked in Washington D.C. through the program. Each student receives course credit for their internship as well as a scholarship. Scholarships are provided by private donors and commodity organizations, such as: the Texas Corn Producers Board, the Texas Grain & Feed Association, Blue Bell Creameries, Texas Farm Bureau, the South Texas Cotton and Grain Association, and Plains Cotton Growers, Inc.
