The City of Lakeway announced that long-time resident and community volunteer LaNell Edwards will preside as Grand Marshal over the Lakeway Fourth of July Parade.

“I was so shocked and honored to be parade marshal,” LaNell said. “I spent years trying to get ‘important’ people to serve as our parade marshal. I never thought anyone would ask me.”
When asked about her lengthy career as a community volunteer, Edwards said that when she and her husband Charles moved to Lakeway in 1990 they were too young to sit in rocking chairs. Anyone who knows Charles and LaNell Edwards is quite sure there will never be rocking chairs in their future.
Charles led the way by serving on the Zoning and Planning Commission and later became Mayor of Lakeway. LaNell also jumped in with both feet.
Her support of Lakeway’s Fourth of July celebration is legendary. She served as Parade Chair for 10 years, passing the mantle to Nancy Clayton almost three years ago. Following in LaNell’s footsteps isn’t an easy task, but Clayton has been superb.
LaNell also held office, serving as a City Council Member from 1995 to 1999 and also served on the Ethics Committee for seven years. She is currently serving on the Personnel Committee.
Her volunteer spirit flowed through many channels. She has served in various capacities on the Board of the Women’s club for 15 years, is a Past-President of the Republican Women’s Club and is the incoming President of Lakeway Seton Associates.
A passion that the Edwards share is patriotism and it is fitting that they both serve on the Patriot Fund Committee, which is near to their hearts. The Patriot Fund Committee raises money to purchase iBot wheel chairs for disabled veterans.
When asked about her volunteerism Edwards said that the satisfaction she received from contributing her time and talents to the community was its own immeasurable reward.
