Thanks in part to a new reverse 911 program, no one was injured in a 7-hour SWAT standoff at a home on Sun Bird Lane, just off RR 620 N near Lakeway, Travis County Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Roger Wade said.

“It started out as a family disturbance between a man and his brother,” Wade said. “He threatened to commit suicide; we called our swat unit out because he had a rifle in the house.”
Wade said they used the recently implemented reverse 911 system to warn neighbors to stay inside their homes during the altercation the night of June 2.
“It allows us to call all the people in the area at once with a recorded message,” Wade said. “It’s a relatively new system and a new tool for us.”
The standoff ended when the man gave himself up between 2 and 3 a.m., Wade said. While the incident began as a fight between the man and his brother, Wade said he never physically threatened his brother, who left the house during the incident.
Due to mental health and confidentiality laws, Wade said, they are not releasing any further information and have not charged the man with anything as of press time Tuesday night.
