Lake Travis has dug itself a hole.

The Cavaliers dropped game one of a best-of-three series Friday night at home to No. 2 Corpus Christi Calallen, 5-3.

Lake Travis took an early 2-0 lead thanks to some miscues in the field by Calallen, but the Wildcats stormed back with a three runs in the top of the fifth, including a home run. Calallen added two more runs in the sixth, and Lake Travis outfielder Cohl Walla launched a solo shot in the bottom of the sixth to score the Cavaliers’ final run.

The loss was Cavalier ace Dylan Mendoza’s first of the season.

The Cavaliers rallied in the seventh, but with runners on first and second with two out, Wyatt Church struck out swinging to end the game.

Lake Travis will now travel to Calallen for game two Saturday at 4 p.m. Game three, if necessary, will be played 30 minutes after game two.

Walla is clearly the best player on the team.

Walla is clearly the best player on the team. I bet you guys didn’t think that short, little, lead off hitter for Calallen had power. His two run shot easily cleared the 345 mark and was definitely the difference in the game.
