Tensions were high at Nelson Field Friday night, as the benches cleared once in a series clinching 12-3 win by Lake Travis.

The Cavaliers took an early 3-1 lead before the Vikings came back and tied the game at three in the third inning, but it was all Lake Travis from there.

With Lake Travis up 7-3 in the fifth inning, the shouting between the dugouts that had gone on all game finally came to a head, prompting the umpires to call time, at which point Cavalier catcher Mason Keel got into a verbal spat with the Vikings’ catcher at home plate during his at-bat. The benches cleared, but order was restored. The taunting by each side eased, and Lake Travis ran away with the game.

Sophomore Grant Gibbs starred yet again for Lake Travis with three hits, and Brad Kuntz and Jack Hourin combined to shut down Lanier.

The Cavs will take on New Braunfels Canyon in the one-game Area Championship on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m., with a venue still to be determined.
