The Lake Travis bats weren’t as rabid as they’ve been this season, but that didn’t matter thanks to Dylan Mendoza’s pitching.

Mendoza no-hit Lanier Thursday night, giving the Cavaliers the opener of the best-of-three Bi-district series. The Cavalier ace struck out 13 and walked just two. The Cavalier bats did more than enough, and the night ended with a 7-0 win.

Sophomore designated hitter Grant Gibbs homered and singled in the victory, but there were few offensive fireworks from the Cavs.

“Their pitcher is throwing maybe mid-seventies, and that’s hard for our guys to adjust to,” Lake Travis assistant coach Wayne Figg said during the game. “We’ve been out on our front foot all night.”

Still, they set themselves up nicely for game two tonight at Nelson Field at 7:30 p.m.
