Lakeway Police arrested a couple for aggravated robbery Tuesday night while their infant was in the car.
Police got a call at 11:09 p.m. that a man had been robbed at knife point in the parking lot of the Lakeway Resort & Spa. A witness identified the car the suspects drove away in as a dark blue 1986 Oldsmobile with damage on the right passenger side, police said in an affidavit.
The Travis County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Lakeway Police in locating the vehicle on the 3500 block of RR 620 N. Police Officer Kyle McCannon initiated the traffic stop, which resulted in police arresting Rachel Ann Fulton, 20, and Antonio DeShawn Collins, 27.
The victim later identified the couple as the people who had robbed him, police said.
“When they went up to the suspects vehicle to do a check of the vehicle to see if there were any other suspects, they found a four month old baby in the vehicle,” said Lakeway Police Detective Mary Proctor.
The baby was turned over to child protective services and the couple was charged with two felony counts, aggravated robbery and endangering a child.
According to an affidavit written by Officer Chris Gutierrez, a knife matching the description the victim gave was found behind the driver’s seat of the car and an amount of money matching th $120-$160 the victim said was stolen was found in Fulton’s purse.
In addition to Officers McCannon and Gutierrez, Lakeway Officer Slade Fisher, Sgt. Alan Stone, and Officer Jason Brown responded to the scene.
Police Chief Gordon Bowers said this is the first recorded aggravated robbery, meaning robbery with a weapon, in Lakeway history. There was one strong-armed robbery in 2008 and two strong-armed robberies in 2004.
