After a 3 month reprieve from the barrage of political campaigning that filled 2008, voters will soon get to meet a new set of candidates for their local governments. Lake Travis area city councils will open candidate filing for the May 9 election in early February. The following is a list of open positions and information on how to run for office.

LAKEWAY
Candidate packets will be available Feb. 9-March 9 from Lakeway City Secretary Christy Fath at City Hall, 1102 Lohmans Crossing Rd, Lakeway.
The terms of Mayor Steve Swan and Councilmen Bob Neighbors, Don Karges and Alan Tye will end in May. The Lakeway City Council meets every third Monday and each councilmember will be expected to act as a liaison to another city department.
The office is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For more information call 314-7506.

BEE CAVE
Candidate packets will be available Feb. 7-March 9 from Bee Cave City Secretary Kaylynn Holloway at City Hall, 4000 Galleria Parkway, Bee Cave.
Prospective candidates may vie for the city council seats of Bill Goodwin and Steve Braasch. The vacant seat left by the departure of former Mayor Pro Tem Zelda Auslander is also up for grabs. The Bee Cave City Council meets every second and fourth Tuesday of the month and like Lakeway, council members are expected act as a liaison to one city board or department.

BRIARCLIFF
Candidate packets will be available Feb. 7-March 9 at the Village of Briarcliff offices at 402 Sleat Drive, Briarcliff.
The terms of Mayor Robert Pigg and Aldermen Al Hostetler and Linda Aldrich expire in May. The Village Council meets on the last Wednesday of the month.
The office is open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For more information call 264-2274
THE HILLS
Candidate packets will be available Feb. 9-March 10 from the Village of the Hills Offices at 102 Trophy Drive, The Hills.
Candidates may put bids in for the seats of Mayor Virgina Jones and Aldermen Lloyd Troelzsch and J.R. Smith. The board meets at 1:15 p.m. on the second Thursday of the month.
The office is open from 8:30 a.m.-noon and 1 p.m.-5 p.m. Monday-Friday. For more information call 261-6281.
In addition to regularly scheduled meetings, all councils and boards may also call special meetings to deal with specific agenda items.

Because it is an odd-numbered year, the Lakeway Municipal Utility District, Water District #17 and the Hurst Creek Municipal Utility District will not hold elections.

The last day to register to vote in the May 9 election is April 9. Citizens can find registration centers at the Travis County Web site or stop by their local city hall.
