A Bee Cave Elementary school student died in a rollover car accident early Monday morning, authorities said.

Brianna Plehn, 11, was one of five children ranging in age from eight to 13 riding in the back of a pickup truck driven by Lynda Mescher, 47, of Spicewood, according to the Lower Colorado River Authority Police. Police said there was also a child riding in the cab of the 2001 Ford F150.
According to authorities, the accident happened at about 12:45 a.m., Jan. 19 at the Grelle Recreation Area in Burnet County on the south side of Lake Travis.
Plehn, a Briarcliff resident, died at the scene.
The other children were taken to Dell Children’s Hospital and Mescher, owner of Silver’s Trails, was taken to Brackenridge Hospital, police said. None of their injuries were life-threatening and police said Mescher and four of the children were released the same day.
LCRA Police are still investigating the accident with support from the Burnet County Sheriff’s Office and Texas Department of Public Safety. This week, LCRA Police said they planned to interview individuals involved in the accident and work with the DPS to conduct a scale reconstruction.
According to the Texas Transportation Code 545.414, it is illegal to operate a pickup truck with a child under 18 riding in the bed. The misdemeanor is punishable by a fine of $25-$200. The only allowable exceptions are parades, transporting farm workers, driving on a beach, if it is the only vehicle owned by a family and hay rides.
“We are deeply saddened by Brianna’s loss,” said LTISD Director of Communications Marco Alvarado. “On behalf of the LTISD family, we offer our heartfelt condolences to her family and friends during this difficult time. In an effort to assist students and staff through the grieving process, a team of counselors from the school district has been assembled at Bee Cave Elementary School.”
Brianna had been a student at Bee Cave Elementary since first grade.
“Her personality, charisma, and abounding energy will always be remembered,” Bee Cave Elementary Principal Janie Braxdale said in a press release.
Visitation for Brianna will begin at 5 p.m., Jan. 22 at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home located at 2620 S. Congress Ave., followed by a Rosary service at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Jan 23 at Emmaus Catholic Church. Following the service, Brianna will be buried at Forest Oaks Cemetery in Austin.
