Led by freshman Abby Colety’s third individual win of the season, the Lake Travis girls cross country team finished second in last week’s District 25-4A meet.
Colety won the district title in a rout, finishing in 11:58, more than 35 seconds ahead of the field. Her time was a season-best, and coach Mike Quinn said Colety has gotten better each week.
“It was her third win of the season, which is quite a feat as a freshman,” he said.
Lake Travis nearly made it a sweep of the individual titles, but Chase Lambert finished second, just two seconds behind the boy’s winner. The boys finished fourth as a team and just missed qualifying for the Region IV-4A meet.
“We fell a few points short of qualifying as a team,” he said.
The girls finished second to Lampasas and will compete as a group in San Antonio on Saturday, Nov. 8. Claire Howington finished tenth in the district meet, followed closely behind by teammates Rebecca Poulos (11th), Sidney Cauthorn (19th) and Sara Beirne (20th). Lambert will be the only Lake Travis boy competing at the regional meet.
The junior varsity teams finished second and third, respectively, in the boys and girls meets.
Brandon Valadez finished second to lead the boys’ effort. James Hatch finished third, Jordan Young finished 12th and Adrian Barbosa 13th. Cheyenne Leithead finished eighth to lead the girls’ effort.
